CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Miami Hurricanes coach Butch Davis recently told LSU officials he was not interested in coaching the Tigers.

"They just called and asked if I'd be interested," Davis said Thursday. "I politely said: 'I'm flattered, but I'm not interested.'"

Davis, 48, was among a handful of coaches believed to be on LSU's list of potential candidates to replace Gerry DiNardo, who was fired Nov. 15 after a 2-8 start this season. DiNardo coached five seasons in Baton Rouge, the past two with losing records.

Under Davis, the Hurricanes are 37-19 in five seasons, including 6-4 this year. Miami, ranked as high as No. 8 this season, has lost four games against teams with a combined 39-5 record.

Davis has four years remaining on his current contract, which is worth about $700,000 annually.
