MIAMI (AP) -- Reluctant NFL prospect Nate Webster will be eligible for the league draft next month, rather than the supplemental draft in July.

The league decision is good news for the former Miami Hurricanes linebacker, who was ruled ineligible for his upcoming senior season by the NCAA.

"Historically guys have not gone as high in the supplemental draft," said Webster's agent, Drew Rosenhaus. "By then most of the NFL teams have filled their needs and signed the free agents they're going to sign."

In January, Webster tried to forgo his senior season and enter the draft, then changed his mind after the paperwork was submitted. But the NCAA declared him ineligible and denied his appeal last week.

Webster will work out for teams March 23, and Rosenhaus touts him as a potential first-round pick.
