Bison Capture First OBC Title

Bucknell, champion of the smaller Eastern colleges, was the first team invited to the Orange Bowl Classic, which had been called the Palm Festival for the previous two years.

Bison head coach Hooks Mylin and his staff took several days to decide on accepting the invitation to bring his team to Miami. They finally said yes, but not without precautions: 280 gallons of their own water supply from Pennsylvania to combat the heat.

Bucknell halfback Steve Smith scored two touchdowns, and the Bison defense held Miami to just four first downs and 28 yards total offense enroute to the inaugural 26-0 victory.

Another famous sidelight from the '35 Classic was the transmission of the first wirephoto across the United States by Associated Press.
